I’m still waiting to attain the books so I think a deeper introduction about myself is appropriate for my first post. I work for an auto-supplier (Bing Metals Group) in Detroit. The company is owned by an old pistons player by the name of Dave Bing. BMG creates parts for the big three. As you all know most auto-companies have taken a huge hit economically which in turn has caused numerous lay-offs in our company. The upper management face the largest risk of job loss because of the high income bracket they are situated in. Today, (5/18/07 revision) the head quality manager with black belt six sigma training was let go. Six Sigma is very prestigious (a few week training session is about 30k) and typically guarantees over a 150k income.

What am I doing at an auto-supplier? I introduced myself in class as being a Poly Sci major, which is true, but I am temporarily working at Bing (in the Engineering Dpt) until I leave for New York at the end of August. I interned for the Governor two summers ago which was a great opportunity but consequently turned me off from running for public office. Having to appeal to a large array of constituents makes it very difficult to transform the political landscape. I noticed that public office tends to be a figurehead position with little substance.

I decided to take a part-time debate coach position at a private school (Edgemont) in one of the NY,NY suburbs. The school offered me a pay range I couldn’t refuse. This would allow me to pursue a masters degree while also having plenty of cash for the expensive living. Recently a friend of mine was accepted into Columbia for grad school which is quite impressive because she went to a low tier research institute for undergrad. We will be living together to help reduce costs.

Enough rambling. Good Night.
