On the first day of class I stated that I am a senior who is in a basic comp class because I couldn’t test out even though I had taken advanced composition at Oakland Univ. My initial perspective on the class fell along the lines of, I don’t need this class, it’s a waste and delaying my graduation. I also stated that I disliked writing.
Now that it is the last day, I realize the value of the assignments. This class was not what I expected it to be, I found it difficult!!!!! When I say difficult I mean that it forced me to think creatively. To be honest, I felt as though my major (Poly Sci-orientated around statistics) drained any sort of creative writing skills I thought I once had. These assignments where difficult for me because they forced me to write in way I haven’t written before (or at least in awhile). They forced me to discuss my ideas with family, coworkers and McGinnis. I don’t think I have ever emailed a professor as much as McGinnis. I actually enjoyed brainstorming even though I found it time consuming. On the way home from work (during rush hour) I would think of ideas and distribute them via emails to see if I was on track.
I enjoyed all three of the assignments and they helped me discover a side of writing I forgot I had. Great class and I would recommend it to any one! The challenge is worth the outcome.
